Program Delivery and Accountability

1Why do international charities work with partners overseas?
Working with local partners allows aid to reach communities faster, more safely, and more effectively.

In many humanitarian contexts, local organizations already have trusted relationships with communities, infrastructure on the ground, and knowledge of local regulations and conditions. By working with vetted partners, Muslim Aid USA can deliver assistance more efficiently while still maintaining oversight through budgets, agreements, monitoring, and reporting requirements. This approach is widely used across the international humanitarian sector and helps ensure aid reaches people who need it most.
2How does Muslim Aid USA ensure accountability when working with international partners?
All programs go through review, monitoring, and reporting processes to ensure funds are used responsibly.

Before a program begins, Muslim Aid USA reviews the proposed scope of work, budget, and delivery plan. Partners must meet due diligence requirements and operate under defined agreements. During implementation, our Programs team monitors progress and requires documentation and reporting to confirm that assistance was delivered as planned. These controls help ensure responsible stewardship of donor funds and alignment with program goals. All programs go through review, monitoring, and reporting processes to ensure funds are used responsibly.nBefore a program begins, Muslim Aid USA reviews the proposed scope of work, budget, and delivery plan. 3How does Muslim Aid USA track where donations go after they leave the United States?
Donations are allocated to approved programs and monitored through reporting and documentation.

When funds are distributed for humanitarian programs, they are tied to approved projects with defined budgets, implementation plans, and reporting requirements. Muslim Aid USA monitors these programs through partner reports, documentation, and internal review processes to confirm aid delivery and program outcomes. This process allows the organization to track how funds are used and ensure they support the intended humanitarian objectives.
4 Why do charities sometimes show photos or videos from partners or field teams?
Images and stories often come from the organizations and teams delivering assistance on the ground.

Humanitarian programs are frequently implemented through local partners and field teams working directly with communities. Photos, videos, and updates may come from these teams to document the delivery of aid and help donors understand the impact of their support. Muslim Aid USA reviews and shares this material to provide transparency about programs and to highlight the real communities being served.

Together these functions allow the organization to respond to humanitarian crises and deliver meaningful support where it is needed most.

Gift-in-Kind

1Why does Muslim Aid USA distribute gift-in-kind aid?
Gift-in-kind donations allow us to deliver essential goods directly to communities in need, complementing cash-based giving as another path to fulfilling our humanitarian mission.

Muslim Aid USA pursues its mission through multiple forms of support. In some cases, donors contribute funds that we use to purchase and distribute goods. In others, goods are donated directly and we arrange for shipments to reach beneficiaries. Both approaches are grounded in well-established humanitarian sector practices and serve the same objective: delivering meaningful assistance to people who need it most. Gift-in-kind programs are implemented with care and accountability. Items distributed are selected based on verified need, and shipments are coordinated in alignment with local authorities who confirm the benefit to receiving communities. The value of donated goods is determined through independent third-party valuations and is subject to external audit, consistent with standards across the nonprofit sector. This ensures that gift-in-kind contributions are accurately represented in our financial reporting and that donors can have confidence in how this form of support is managed.

Donations and Outreach

1Do you accept in-kind donations?
In most cases we prioritize financial donations.

Financial contributions allow faster response and locally appropriate purchasing. Muslim Aid USA may consider in-kind donations from institutional donors, manufacturers, or NGOs when they align with verified needs and can be distributed effectively.
2Are donated goods treated the same as cash donations?
No. Cash and noncash support are documented differently.

Cash donations fund programs directly while donated goods are tracked separately through nonprofit accounting standards. Program reporting focuses on what was delivered and how assistance reached beneficiaries.

If you have received a call from 804-322-4730, please be assured that this is our official Outbound Team number. Our outreach team may contact donors regarding a recent donation, pledge follow-up, campaign updates, or to provide information about projects and programs.

Muslim Aid USA Orphan Sponsorship Program

1What is the Orphan Sponsorship Program at Muslim Aid USA?
The Orphan Sponsorship Program supports vulnerable children who have lost one or both parents by helping provide basic needs and stability.

The Orphan Sponsorship Program, also referred to as the Child Sponsorship Program, is a core initiative at Muslim Aid USA dedicated to supporting vulnerable children who have lost one or both parents. The program helps provide essential resources such as food, education, healthcare, and emotional support so children can grow and develop despite difficult circumstances.
2What specific needs does my sponsorship cover?
Sponsorship helps cover essential needs such as food, education, healthcare, and basic living expenses.

Sponsorship funds help support children through assistance with education, food, healthcare, and shelter. Support is typically provided through quarterly cash disbursements to families so they can meet essential needs including food, clothing, school materials, medicine, and hygiene items.
3In which countries does MAUSA sponsor orphans?
Muslim Aid USA supports orphan sponsorship programs in several countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Current orphan sponsorship programs operate in the following locations:
  • Bangladesh
  • Bosnia
  • Gambia
  • India
  • Jammu and Kashmir (India)
  • Pakistan
  • Sierra Leone
  • Somalia
  • Sri Lanka
  • Syrian refugees in Turkey
  • Uyghur refugees in Turkey
4How does the orphan sponsorship process work?
MAUSA works with trusted partner organizations to identify eligible children and connect them with sponsors.

The program operates through collaboration with vetted partner organizations in the countries where children live. These partners identify eligible children and provide profiles that include a photo and school information. Muslim Aid USA shares these profiles with donors, who can then choose a child to sponsor.
5What reporting and accountability measures are used?
Partners provide annual reports and school updates to track each child's progress.

To maintain transparency and monitor each child's development, partner organizations submit reports at the end of the sponsorship year. These reports typically include an annual update on the child and a Child School Scorecard that tracks academic progress.
6Can I visit the child I sponsor?
Direct visits are not permitted in order to protect the child's safety and privacy.

For the protection and well being of the child, in person visits by sponsors are not allowed. This policy helps safeguard children and maintain their privacy and security. Communication and updates are coordinated through the Muslim Aid USA Orphan Sponsorship team.
7What happens if the child's mother remarries?
The child's eligibility may change depending on their new family circumstances.

Children are sponsored according to the definition of an orphan under Shariah guidelines. If the child's mother remarries someone who is able to fully support the child financially, the child may no longer qualify under the program criteria. If this occurs, the sponsorship will conclude and the donor will be offered the opportunity to sponsor another eligible child.
8What happens if the sponsored child moves?
Partner organizations update the child's records and determine if support can continue in the new location.

If a child and their guardian relocate, the partner organization must update the child's profile and contact information. Muslim Aid USA and its partners will make every effort to continue support if the new location is within the partner's service area and the child remains eligible for the program.
9When does a child leave the Orphan Sponsorship Program?
Children typically leave the program when they reach adulthood or their circumstances change.

A child may graduate from the program when one of the following occurs:

-They reach the program's maximum age limit (18 years)
-They complete their educational program
-Their financial or living situation improves significantly
-Their guardian no longer meets program requirements such as ensuring the child attends school
If a child leaves the program, the donor will be notified and given the opportunity to sponsor another child.
10What happens if a sponsored child passes away?
The donor will be notified and offered the opportunity to sponsor another child.

In the unfortunate event of a child's passing, the partner organization will notify Muslim Aid USA immediately. The donor will be informed respectfully and any remaining sponsorship funds will be redirected to support another child in urgent need.
11When are orphan sponsorship annual reports provided?
Annual reports are typically delivered by the end of March each year.

Reports covering the January through December sponsorship period are collected from partner organizations and shared with donors by the end of March. This allows time for partners to gather required documentation such as school reports and confirmation of support provided to the child's guardian.
12What information is included in the orphan sponsorship annual report?
Reports include a photo update and school progress information.

Annual reports generally include:
-A recent photo of the sponsored child.
-The Child School Scorecard or academic progress report

These updates help sponsors understand the child's development and educational progress.
13What should I do if I do not receive my orphan sponsorship annual report?
Contact the Muslim Aid USA Orphan Sponsorship team for assistance.

If you have not received your report after the March reporting period, please contact the Orphan Sponsorship team. While we aim for full reporting compliance, delays can occasionally occur due to circumstances such as:

-The child leaving the program
-A relocation outside the partner's service area
-Administrative or logistical delays in the country of implementation

Our team will investigate and provide an update or offer a new child profile if the sponsorship has concluded.
